Quality at Every Turn: Torrington's Commitment to Design for Manufacturing Ensures the Best Results

Situated in Torrington, Connecticut, Torrington Research Company's manufacturing facilities incorporate a complete test laboratory, a prototyping shop, and advanced CAD/CAE design systems. To turn the superior design developed by our engineers into a reality for our customers, Torrington's manufacturing expertise extends to:

Design for Manufacturing
Critical to the success of all our manufactured product is a significant reduction of part counts. Our efforts to reduce part counts starts during the product concept phase, along with an early understanding of materials selection and manufacturing process flow, and continues through the design cycle. Torrington involves manufacturing engineers and production line management early in design stages to facilitate simultaneous
engineering. Having all of these skill sets in-house ensures that we optimize our customers' designs for the lowest cost production possible.

Lean Manufacturing Assembly
Torrington Research utilizes manufacturing assembly cells capable of generating annual volumes in the tens and hundreds of thousands. With low part counts and a dedication to lean manufacturing techniques, our experienced staff minimizes product inventory and handling, as well as the design for manufacturing advantages mentioned above. We currently have more than 100,000 square feet of manufacturing capacity.

Supply Chain Development and Management
Since Torrington concentrates on the final assembly and testing of our products, a worldwide supplier base is a necessity for achieving the lowest cost solution for component parts. Torrington has developed strong partnering relationships with international suppliers.

Manufacturing Test Equipment Design and Assembly
Torrington has a unique capability to design, develop and assemble production line testing systems as a result of skills developed in the design of our airflow test equipment. Each existing production assembly line has custom test equipment that captures performance criteria into a computer database. This data is part of our quality system for tracking each unit on the manufacturing floor and out in the field.
